Jan Lohmann
Jewel artist Jan Lohmann (1944) is a trained jeweler and opened Galerie Metal, Copenhagen, in 1978, together with Peder Musse. Galerie Metal was essential for the development of Danish jewelry art in the 1980s. A study trip to South and Central America gave his early organic-embellished jewelry a pre-Columbian twist.
In 1984, Jan Lohmann became the first in Denmark to anodized titanium in contrast with the precious metals, and a sharper linear form language became the characteristics of the jewelry. Since 1995 he has performed several monumental exhibitions, including "Untitled" (1995) in Kirstinehaven in Ballerup.
Jan Lohmann is represented at Koldinghus, at the museum's department for silver and goldsmith art. In addition, he is in the world's largest book of jewelry and jewelry artists, by Chinese-born American Andy Lim, "The Compendium Final of Contemporary Jewells 2008", which tells about the history of jewelry and presents 1,040 jewelry artists from all over the world.
In 1995 Jan Lohman together with Lise Funder wrote the book “Nordic Jewellery”
Since the 1980´s, Jan Lohman has made a number of sculptures for city halls both for outdoors and indoors.
